Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to common questions about our CNC machining services
What is CNC machining and how does it work?
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining is a subtractive manufacturing process that uses computer-controlled cutting tools to remove material from a workpiece to create precise parts. The process involves programming tool paths based on CAD models, allowing for highly accurate and repeatable production of complex geometries in metals and plastics.
What tolerances can you achieve with CNC machining?
Our standard tolerances are ±0.005" (±0.127mm) for metals and ±0.010" (±0.254mm) for plastics. For precision applications, we can achieve tolerances as tight as ±0.001" (±0.025mm) depending on the geometry, material, and specific requirements. We follow ISO 2768 standards and can accommodate custom tolerance requirements.
What materials can you machine?
We machine over 40 metal alloys including aluminum (6061, 7075, 2024), stainless steel (304, 316, 17-4 PH), titanium (Ti-6Al-4V), tool steels, and exotic alloys. For plastics, we work with 30+ engineering-grade materials including PEEK, POM, PC, ABS, PTFE, and various filled composites. Custom materials can be sourced upon request.
What are your typical lead times?
Standard lead times are 3-5 business days for most parts. Rush orders can be completed in 1-2 days depending on complexity and current workload. Lead times vary based on part complexity, material availability, quantity, and finishing requirements. We provide accurate delivery estimates with every quote.
What file formats do you accept?
We accept all major CAD file formats including STEP, IGES, STL, STP, X_T, DWG, PDF, and native files from SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, and other CAD systems. For optimal results, we recommend STEP or IGES files. 2D drawings are also accepted for simple geometries.
What quality certifications do you have?
We maintain ISO 9001:2015, AS9100D (aerospace), ISO 13485 (medical), and ITAR registration. Our quality system includes CMM inspection, first article inspection reports, certificates of compliance, and material certifications. All parts undergo rigorous quality control before shipment.
How is CNC machining pricing determined?
Pricing is based on material costs, machining time, complexity, tolerances, surface finishes, and quantity. Setup costs are amortized across production quantity, making larger volumes more economical. We provide instant online quotes with transparent pricing and no hidden fees. Volume discounts are available for production orders.
Do you provide design for manufacturability (DFM) feedback?
Yes, our experienced engineers provide comprehensive DFM analysis with every quote. We identify potential manufacturing challenges, suggest design optimizations to reduce costs, improve quality, and enhance manufacturability while maintaining functionality. This service is included at no additional charge.
